Plymouth, Montserrat

Plymouth is the abandoned capital of Montserrat, a British territory in the Caribbean. The island's main town and port since colonial times, it was buried under ash and pyroclastic flows by the eruptions of the Soufrière Hills volcano, which began in 1995 and destroyed the town in 1997. It remains the official capital, though it lies in an exclusion zone and the government works from Brades in the north.
