Plymouth Sound

Plymouth Sound is a deep bay on the English Channel at the mouths of the rivers Tamar and Plym, between Devon and Cornwall. It shelters the port of Plymouth and the naval base at Devonport. A breakwater across its entrance, completed in the 1840s, made it one of the main anchorages of the Royal Navy, and harbours on its shores were used for trade since prehistoric times.
