Royal Navy
The Royal Navy is the naval service of Britain, which developed from the English navy into the most powerful fleet in the world between the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries. It protected trade routes, defended the British Isles and projected power to colonies across the globe. Accounts of the British Empire treat a professional Royal Navy as a foundation of British imperial expansion and commercial dominance.
