Politburo

Also known as Political Bureau

The Politburo (Political Bureau) is the executive committee of a communist party's Central Committee and the real centre of power in a communist state. First created by the Russian Bolsheviks in 1917 and made permanent in 1919, the model was copied by the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam and other communist states, where a small inner standing committee often holds supreme authority.
