Praefectus

Also known as prefects of particular personal loyalty

A praefectus, or prefect, was a Roman official appointed to a command or administrative post. Under the Roman Empire certain strategically important provinces, notably Egypt, were governed by prefects of equestrian rank. These appointees were chosen for their personal loyalty to the emperor.
