Pre-Columbian era
The pre-Columbian era refers to the history of the Americas before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 and subsequent European colonisation. It saw the rise of complex civilisations such as the Maya, the Inca and the Aztecs. The Aztec Empire was among the most powerful pre-Columbian states before its conquest by the Spanish Empire.
