Qaryat al-Faw

Also known as al-Faw

Qaryat al-Faw is an archaeological site in south-western Saudi Arabia, on the north-western edge of the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter). From about the 1st century BCE to the 5th century CE it was a caravan town on the incense route, and it is identified with Qaryat Dhat Kahl, an early capital of Kinda. Excavated by King Saud University from 1972, it has revealed markets, temples, houses, tombs and wall paintings.
