Rano Raraku
Rano Raraku is a volcanic crater on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) whose compressed volcanic ash was the quarry for nearly all of the island's moai statues. Hundreds of moai remain on its slopes, some standing buried to their shoulders and others unfinished in the rock, showing every stage of carving. The site is part of Rapa Nui National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
