Rarámuri

Also known as Tarahumara

The Rarámuri, or Tarahumara, are an Indigenous people of the Sierra Madre Occidental in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, speaking a Uto-Aztecan language. Jesuit missions reached them in the early 17th century, and they rose in several revolts in the mid- and late 17th century before many withdrew into the canyons. They are famous for long-distance running, including the traditional kick-ball race rarajípari.
