1709 · 18th century

Chihuahua is a city in northern Mexico, capital of the state of the same name. It was founded in 1709 as a mining settlement after silver was found nearby, and became the chief town of the northern frontier, linked by the Camino Real to Santa Fe and Mexico City. Miguel Hidalgo was executed there in 1811, and Pancho Villa had his headquarters there during the Mexican Revolution.
