Acoma Pueblo
Acoma Pueblo is a Native American pueblo built on a sandstone mesa west of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is among the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the United States. After its people killed a party of Spanish soldiers in 1598, Juan de Oñate's forces stormed the mesa in January 1599, killed several hundred inhabitants and sentenced the survivors to servitude and mutilation. Oñate was later tried and punished for his conduct.
