Ravanica

1375–1377 · 14th century · Also known as Ravanica Monastery

Ravanica is a Serbian Orthodox monastery in central Serbia, founded in the 1370s by Prince Lazar as his burial church. Its church, with five domes and richly decorated façades, is the earliest major work of the Morava school of architecture. Lazar's relics rested there after the Battle of Kosovo until monks carried them north to escape the Ottomans in 1690; they were returned to Ravanica in 1989.
