Raya Malla
Raya Malla was the first king of the separate kingdom of Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley. When his father Yaksha Malla died in 1482, the Malla realm was divided among his sons: Raya Malla kept Bhaktapur, the old capital in the east of the valley, while his brothers founded Kantipur and other seats, beginning the rivalry of the valley kingdoms.
