Newar people
The Newars are the historic inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, speaking Nepal Bhasa (Newari), a Sino-Tibetan language, and following both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Under the Malla kings their cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur flourished as centres of trade, temple architecture, metalwork and painting. Newar merchants long dominated trade between Nepal and Tibet.
