Ritzebüttel

Ritzebüttel is a castle and former bailiwick at the mouth of the Elbe, in present-day Cuxhaven. Acquired by Hamburg in 1394, it served for more than five centuries as the city's outpost for protecting shipping and pilotage on the lower Elbe. It passed to Prussia with Cuxhaven under the Greater Hamburg Act of 1937.
