Rupa Goswami

c. 1489–1564 · 16th century

Rupa Goswami was a theologian and poet of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, one of the six Goswamis of Vrindavan. With his brother Sanatana he served Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah of Bengal as a high official before leaving to follow Chaitanya, who sent him to Vrindavan. His Sanskrit works, especially the Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu, set out the theory of devotion to Krishna for the movement.
