Ruyan
Ruyan was a mountainous region of western Tabaristan, on the northern slopes of the Alborz in what is now Mazandaran, Iran, later known as Rustamdar. Its local princes, above all the Paduspanids, kept power there for centuries under successive overlords, and in 864 its people invited Hasan ibn Zayd to lead the revolt that founded the Alavid state.
