Sabzevar

Also known as Sabzawar

Sabzevar is a city in Razavi Khorasan province in north-eastern Iran, west of Nishapur on the old road between Tehran and Mashhad. In the 14th century it was the capital of the Sarbadars, a Shia state formed in a revolt against Mongol officials after the break-up of the Ilkhanate. It was long a centre of Shia learning and is the birthplace of the 19th-century philosopher Hadi Sabzavari.
