Şahin Giray

1745–1787 · 18th century · Also known as Shahin Giray

Şahin Giray was the last khan of Crimea, ruling from 1777 to 1783 with Russian support after the khanate became nominally independent in 1774. His centralising, European-style reforms of the army and administration provoked revolts that Russian troops put down. He abdicated after Catherine II annexed Crimea in 1783, moved to the Ottoman Empire and was executed there on the sultan's orders in 1787.
