Said bin Hamad Al Qasimi

20th century · 20th century

Said bin Hamad Al Qasimi was sheikh of Kalba, a town on the Gulf of Oman coast held by a branch of the Al Qasimi family of Sharjah. In 1936 Britain recognised him as an independent ruler among the Trucial States, in return for permission to build an emergency landing ground for Imperial Airways flights to India. Kalba's separate status lasted only until the early 1950s, when it was reabsorbed into Sharjah.
