Saint-Gilles (Gard)
Saint-Gilles is a town in the Gard department of southern France, on the edge of the Camargue near the Rhône delta. It grew around the abbey holding the tomb of Saint Giles, a major pilgrimage goal and a stop on the road to Santiago de Compostela, and was the ancestral seat of the counts of Toulouse. The abbey church's twelfth-century sculpted façade is a masterpiece of Romanesque art.
