Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a former Benedictine abbey in Paris, founded by King Childebert I in the 550s to house relics of Saint Vincent brought from Spain, and later named after Bishop Germanus of Paris, who was buried there. It was a burial place of Merovingian kings and a great landowner, whose 9th-century estate survey is a key source on Carolingian rural life. Its church survives.
