Salmas
Salmas is a city in West Azerbaijan province in north-western Iran, on a plain north-west of Lake Urmia near the Turkish border. In the 18th century it was ruled together with Khoy by the Donboli khans. It long had Armenian and Assyrian Christian communities, many of whose members were killed or fled during the First World War. After an earthquake destroyed the old town in 1930, a new town was built.
