Khoy
Khoy is a city in West Azerbaijan province in north-western Iran, north of Lake Urmia and near the Turkish border. It lay on the trade route between Tabriz and Anatolia, and the Battle of Chaldiran was fought north-west of it in 1514. From the Safavid period the Kurdish Donboli family held hereditary authority there, ruling it as a khanate after 1747 until the Qajars absorbed it.
