Samogitians

The Samogitians are a Baltic people of western Lithuania, living in the region of Samogitia. In the 13th century they defeated the Livonian Order at Saule in 1236 and at Durbe in 1260, and they long resisted conversion and conquest by the military orders. They became part of the Lithuanian nation, and their dialect remains distinctive.
