Neman
The Neman, or Nemunas, is a river of eastern Europe about 900 kilometres long, rising in Belarus and flowing through Lithuania to the Curonian Lagoon on the Baltic Sea. Its lower course forms the border between Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region of Russia. In the Middle Ages it was the frontier and battleground between the Teutonic Order and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and in 1807 Napoleon and Alexander I met on a raft on the river at Tilsit.
