Samothrace
Samothrace is a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea, dominated by the peak of Mount Fengari. In antiquity it was famed for the Sanctuary of the Great Gods and its mystery cult, where the statue known as the Winged Victory of Samothrace was found. In the 15th century it was held by the Genoese Gattilusio family before passing to the Ottomans, and it became Greek in 1912.
