Samosata
Samosata was an ancient city on the right bank of the upper Euphrates, at modern Samsat in south-eastern Turkey. It was the centre of the Neo-Hittite kingdom of Kummuh and later the capital of the Hellenistic kingdom of Commagene, until Rome annexed the region in 72 CE. The writer Lucian was born there, and the old site now lies under the reservoir of the Atatürk Dam.
