Sangpyeong tongbo
The Sangpyeong tongbo was a copper coin of Joseon Korea, cast in large numbers from 1678 under King Sukjong as the country's standard currency. Earlier attempts to introduce coins had failed, but the growth of markets after the Uniform Land Tax Law allowed this one to circulate widely. It remained in use for over two centuries, until Korea adopted modern coinage in the 1890s.
