Sant Genís de Fontanes

Also known as Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines

Sant Genís de Fontanes, in French Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines, is a former Benedictine abbey in Roussillon, founded in the early 9th century. Its marble lintel, carved with Christ in Majesty among the apostles and dated by its inscription to 1019–1020, is the oldest dated work of Romanesque sculpture in France. The abbey also keeps a reassembled Gothic cloister.
