Saturn (mythology)

Saturn was an ancient Roman god of agriculture and wealth, identified with the Greek Kronos, whose festival, the Saturnalia, was held in December. His temple in the Roman Forum housed the state treasury. In Roman North Africa the Punic god Baal Hammon was worshipped as Saturn, and his sanctuaries, with thousands of votive stelae, were among the most important in the region until the 4th century.
