Baal Hammon
Baal Hammon was the chief god of Carthage and the Punic world, worshipped with the goddess Tanit. His sanctuaries, called tophets, contain urns of burnt infants and animals whose interpretation as child sacrifice is still debated. After the Roman conquest his cult continued in North Africa as that of Saturn, the leading god of the African countryside until the spread of Christianity.
