Hippo Regius
Hippo Regius was an ancient city on the coast of present-day Algeria, on the site of modern Annaba. A Phoenician foundation, it became one of the royal residences of the Numidian kings and then a major Roman port and city. Augustine was its bishop from 395 until his death in 430 during the siege of the city by the Vandals.
