Baal-Berith
Baal-Berith, "Lord of the Covenant", also called El-Berith, was a god worshipped at Shechem according to the Book of Judges. Judges records that the city's leaders paid Abimelech from his temple's treasury and that the temple was destroyed when Abimelech sacked Shechem. Archaeologists have linked the story to a large fortress temple of the Bronze Age excavated at Tell Balata.
