Mount Ebal
Mount Ebal is a mountain north of Nablus in the West Bank, facing Mount Gerizim across the valley of ancient Shechem. In the Hebrew Bible it is where Moses commanded the Israelites to build an altar and pronounce curses, while blessings were spoken from Gerizim. An Iron Age stone structure on its slope, excavated in the 1980s, has been debated as a possible early altar.
