Sawant Singh
Sawant Singh was the ruler of Kishangarh in Rajasthan from 1748 and a poet who wrote devotional verse to Krishna under the name Nagari Das. Under his patronage the court painter Nihal Chand created the Kishangarh style of painting, famous for its idealised lovers. Tired of succession quarrels, he gave up the throne and spent his last years at Vrindavan, the town of Krishna, with his companion Bani Thani.
