Person
Sayana
Sayana was a Sanskrit scholar and minister at the court of the early Vijayanagara kings, especially Bukka I and Harihara II. He and his collaborators wrote commentaries on all four Vedas, among them the Vedarthaprakasha on the Rigveda, which became the standard traditional interpretation and was used by European scholars in the nineteenth century. Tradition makes him the brother of the sage Vidyaranya.
