Second Battle of Panipat

1556 · 16th century

The Second Battle of Panipat was fought on 5 November 1556 north of Delhi between the young Mughal emperor Akbar, under his regent Bairam Khan, and Hemu, the Hindu general who had taken Delhi for the Sur dynasty. Hemu had the upper hand until an arrow struck him in the eye; his army broke, and he was captured and killed. The victory restored Mughal rule in north India.
