Segovesus

legendary, c. 600 BCE · 7th century BCE

Segovesus was a legendary Gallic leader, nephew of King Ambigatus of the Bituriges. According to Livy, while his brother Bellovesus led Celtic migrants into Italy around 600 BCE, Segovesus was sent by lot to lead another migration east into the Hercynian Forest of central Europe. The story reflects Roman ideas about the Celtic expansion.
