Gallia Aquitania

Also known as Aquitania, Roman Aquitania

Gallia Aquitania was a province of the Roman Empire in south-western Gaul, organised under Augustus. It originally covered the land of the Aquitani between the Pyrenees and the Garonne, but was extended north to the Loire, taking in many Celtic peoples. Burdigala, modern Bordeaux, became its capital. In late antiquity it was divided, the south-west becoming Novempopulana.
