Novempopulania
Novempopulana was a late Roman province in south-western Gaul, between the Garonne and the Pyrenees, formed around 300 from the southern part of Aquitania. Its name, 'nine peoples', referred to its Aquitanian tribes, though it later contained twelve civitates. Its capital was Elusa, modern Eauze, and the province formed the basis of the later duchy of Gascony.
