Semiramis

Also known as Shamiram

Semiramis is a legendary queen of Assyria in Greek tradition, credited with founding Babylon, building great works and leading campaigns as far as India. The legend probably drew on Shammuramat, the mother of Adad-nirari III, who was influential at the Assyrian court around 800 BCE. In Armenian tradition, as Shamiram, she desired the hero Ara the Handsome, and Urartian works around Van, including Menua's canal, were attributed to her.
