Semirechye
Semirechye, meaning seven rivers, is a region of steppe and river valleys south-east of Lake Balkhash, in modern Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It was valued as pastureland by nomadic peoples. Accounts of the Chagatai Empire list it among the territories assigned to Chagatai, combining pastoral grasslands with access to Silk Road cities.
