Serbian Patriarchate of Peć

1346–1766 · 14th century

The Serbian Patriarchate of Peć was the patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, seated at the Patriarchal Monastery of Peć in present-day Kosovo. The Serbian archbishopric was raised to a patriarchate in 1346, when Stefan Dušan was crowned emperor; after lapsing under Ottoman rule it was restored in 1557 with the support of the grand vizier Mehmed Sokolović, and abolished again in 1766. It sustained Serbian church life under the Ottomans.
