Skopje

Also known as Üsküb

Skopje is the capital and largest city of North Macedonia, on the Vardar river. It grew near Roman Scupi and became a royal city of medieval Serbia, where Stefan Dušan was crowned emperor in 1346. The Ottomans took it in 1392 and held it, as Üsküb, until 1912. Much of the city was rebuilt after a severe earthquake in 1963.
