Scupi

Scupi was an ancient city on the upper Vardar, just north-west of modern Skopje in North Macedonia. Originally a centre of the Dardani, it became a Roman legionary base and then, under the Flavian emperors, a colony of veterans, later serving as capital of the province of Dardania. An earthquake destroyed it in 518, and its ruins have been excavated since the 20th century.
