Vardar

Also known as Axios

The Vardar is the longest river of North Macedonia, about 390 kilometres long, flowing from the Šar Mountains past Skopje into Greece, where as the Axios it enters the Aegean near Thessaloniki. Its valley has long been the main route between the central Balkans and the Aegean. Historians often divide the region of Macedonia into Vardar, Aegean and Pirin Macedonia.
