Vardar Macedonia

Also known as Yugoslav Macedonia

Vardar Macedonia is the part of the wider region of Macedonia, around the Vardar valley, that Serbia won in the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913 and that belonged to Yugoslavia until 1991. Bulgaria occupied most of it in both world wars, hoping to annex it. In 1944 it became the People's Republic of Macedonia within Yugoslavia, and its territory now forms North Macedonia.
