13th century · 13th century

Skomantas was a leader of the Sudovians, or Yotvingians, a Baltic people, in the later 13th century. He led raids on Rus' and Polish lands and resisted the advance of the Teutonic Order, but in 1283 he submitted to the Order, ending organised Sudovian resistance. Many of his people were then resettled in Sambia.
