Serres

Serres is a city in the region of Macedonia in northern Greece, in the fertile valley of the Strymon. Stefan Dušan took it from Byzantium in 1345, and after his death it became the seat of his widow Helena and of the despot Jovan Uglješa. The Ottomans captured it in 1383, and it was part of their empire until 1913.
